Wayne Rooney to Arsenal? You’ve Got To Be Kidding!

Like the Higuain, Jovetic, Benteke and Fabregas rumours which have been around for weeks now, the Wayne Rooney one is another which is still doing the rounds.

As many people have already pointed out, his salary demands are a million miles away from our famed wage structure and more importantly, Wayne Rooney is past it.

He’s a disruptive influence and a player Arsene would not want to manage. As usual, the football agents are “feeding” stories to the media to help him wangle a move away from Old Trafford, using Arsenal to try and drum up interest from other clubs.

Unfortunately, it’s not working and teams like Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG who would be the only ones able to afford him and his wages aren’t taking the bait.

His stock has fallen so low that he now has to be associated with a team like Arsenal, who are regularly fighting for the Top 4 instead of any major trophies.

  1. Joining Arsenal 2 years ago would have been like treading water for most top players because of the prioritising of paying off the stadium and not investing in players.
As of 2013 season Arsenal will get back in to the game again and perhaps still not competing with the likes of PSG, Monaco, City and Chelsea for financial clout but every other team will be on a financial par to Arsenal.

If a player like Rooney wants to play football but puts the financial rewards first then his choices will be limited but that doesn’t mean he still cant win trophies with teams like Arsenal, he will just have to do it on a cheaper salary!

Rooney is still a very good player, but there are just as good players out there too, and possibly for a lot less as well.

Given a choice of Rooney and Higuain, I would take the latter and for half the salary and 2/3 the purchase price.

  2. OMG Rooney past it!?!

    What are you smoking?

RVP’s success at UTD is in no small part due to Rooney working behind him. He has excelled in the role and most defenses simply couldn’t deal with the pairing.

While I don’t think he is an Arsenal player because of attitude and image I do think your ‘past it’ assessment is bizarre.

  3. It is very possible that Wenger is playing one of his famous games and like the magician whose banter and handwaving is done to divert attention away from what his other hand is doing, Wenger is hoping to cover up his real dealings. Especially from the Arsenal scouting doppelgangers like Chelsea and Juve.
