Sanchez Among Arsenal Stars to Shine on International Duty

Despite Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sweating on the fitness of Alexis Sanchez after the former Barcelona man picked up a hamstring injury during the international break, the forward once again demonstrated his immense qualities for Chile, scoring twice in helping them to a 3-1 World Cup qualifying win over Uruguay. Despite Wenger admitting to falling asleep while attempting to watch his star man in action, Sanchez is just one of a number of Arsenal players who could star on the world stage, with Chile among the outsiders in the football odds for the World Cup thanks to the form on Arsenal’s number seventeen.

Chile currently sit in the final automatic qualification position in the South American qualification standings, and having scored five goals for his nation during the campaign, Sanchez has once again demonstrated his worth on the international stage. Despite Lionel Messi’s Argentina applying pressure in fifth position, Chile are still odds on in the football odds with bookmakers Coral to make the finals in Russia. If Sanchez can stay fit from now until 2018, many will fancy Chile’s World Cup chances, with La Roja having lost out on penalties to hosts Brazil last time around.

Elsewhere for Arsenal, the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alex Iwobi and Hector Bellerin could be among those players to star on the biggest stage of them all, with the latter duo having recently burst onto the international team for Nigeria and Spain respectively. Having helped Germany to success in Brazil, Ozil will be hoping that his current form can help Joachim Low’s side to a second successive World Cup success. Coral have Germany as the 5/1 favourites in the football odds, with Argentina and Spain closely following.

Having turned down the opportunity to represent England, Iwobi has gone on to star for Nigeria, earning seven caps since his debut. Nigeria have won both or their final group stage fixtures as they hope to successfully qualify for Russia 2018, and with the Arsenal midfielder having impressed during his early career, the former England youth player could be one of the best African players on show.

Finally, and despite currently being ruled out through injury, defender Hector Bellerin looks set to make the right-back position his own for both club and country. Having fully committed to the Gunners despite heavy interest from Barcelona, Bellerin has three Spanish caps to his name, and with his continued development over the past two seasons, the speedster should be part of the Spain squad in Russia, who are currently 10/1 with Coral to win the whole tournament.
