So What’s Your Highlight Of The Season?

For Arsenal Football Club at least, this weekend will signal the end of the footballing season as the final Premiership fixtures are finally concluded when we play Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

So what have we learnt this season?

Have we improved on our last campaign?

There were many highlights this season along with many disappointments.

Arsene’s young guns managed to light up the Carling Cup by reaching the final only to lose against a full-strength Chelsea side, impressively beating Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham along the way.

We also beat Champions Manchester United twice, drew against Chelsea twice and beat Liverpool at home to have the best record against the top 4 clubs.

But of course we crashed out of the Champions League at the first knockout stage and despite impressing in the FA Cup against Liverpool and Bolton Wanderers away, we couldn’t push on and were knocked out against Blackburn Rovers when we were guilty of wastefulness in front of goal.

Something which seems to sum up our season really.

And our inability to beat teams lower in the league remains a problem from last season and our main obstacle in challenging for the league. Away day defeats against Sheffield United, West Ham, Fulham and Everton seem to be the norm nowadays and there’s something missing in the squad – fighters who give everything in every game.

My personal highlight of this season was the win at Old Trafford in September.

Going into that game, Arsenal’s form was poor after failing to win any of their first 3 games while United were flying and had won their first 3 fixtures – and comfortably.

No-one gave Arsenal a chance.

But after dominating the game from start to finishing (and even missing a penalty in the process) Arsenal walked away from Old Trafford with all 3 points – and deservedly so. Adebayor was the man to score the decisive goal on 86 minutes after Fabregas stole the ball from Ronaldo and slipped in a quite brilliant through-ball.

There was fresh optimism after that match – Arsenal had improved on last season and were genuine title challengers! No more lacklustre away days in the North, Arsenal had finally got their act together.

But as the season ends we know that wasn’t the case at all.

So what was your highlight of the season?

  1. My hightlight of the season was to see the first Brailian in the history of football show absoloutely no ball control or skill!!!! I really thought all Brazillians were gifted with control and skill from birth some sort of genetic gift from the football Gods!!! Now we can put that myth to bed!!!!

In all seriousness, the highlight was seeing the determination of the kiddies, Van Persie and the unsung player of the year Clichy. That boy showed we didnt miss cashley cole.

There are plus points to take from the season but as gooners of my generation (im 29) we are used to soooo much success it hurts when we dont get any!!

I have faith in Wenger and it will come good but, dont know if it will be next season.
    I have f

  2. fabregas nutmegging the prick savage in the build up to the SIXTH goal of that drubbing of blackburn…i could kiss that boy!

  3. Arsenal 1 – 0 Man United :
Showed what a fully fit First 11 (even without Henry) can do, best performance by any team this seson.

    Blackburn 0 – 2 Arsenal :
Despite the superb Gilberto being sent off, we beat them, in style with one of the goals of the season from Henry, who.. has apparently lost it?

    Van Persie @ Charlton :
A demonstration of the monster he will be next season. No, he is not a Bergkamp, he has more power!

    Cesc Fabregas :
Give or take, has the best vision in the World.

    Gilberto :
Ive slated him for years up until the previous two, he really is outstanding.

    Gael Clichy :
FUCK Ashley Cole, this geeza’s gonna piss all over you.

    To next season…

  4. My Highlight was dong the double over ManPoo.
however, the lowlights are way too many such as the patehtic displays v PSV, the horror shows v Hammers and the form of the awful baptista, horrific gallas and the travesty named Eboue
add in a clang of a Lehmann and a clumsy of a Toure and you got yourself a bad team.

But we are still better than SPuds

    MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  5. The low point or should I say turning point was the game against CSKA, if we won that game I am sure thing would have turned out great. Miss, miss, miss, miss, then miss and miss and miss and miss miss miss miss miss chancessssssssss.
Check the patterns after that game. If we won that we have have beaten PSV and more teams thing season, that was our best play which coincided with our worse misses.

  6. Definitely Robin v. Persie’s goal against Man U closely followed by Henry’s goal against Liverpool in the F.A. Cup. Henry’s goal against Blackburn away is high up there too. Low points: too many to list but both PSV games should be right up there.

  7. Highlights of the season :
    GAMES—————————————————————————
    |Man Yoo 0-1 ARSENAL| (the mancs couldnt even touch the ball, great display)
    |Bolton 1-3 ARSENAL| (FA CUP replay) (the best win over bolton in recent years although missed 2 penalties )
    |Blackburn 0-2 ARSENAL| (thats how all the away games should be played , guts determination and class)
    |Reading 0-4 ARSENAL| (took the lead early on and went on to destroy Reading with great flair and attacking football)
    ————————————————————————————
    GOALS
    ———————————————————————————–
    RvP vs Charlton (away)
    Henry vs Blackburn (away)
    Rosicky vs Hamburg (away)
    plenty more …

  8. I reckon beating Fat Sams Bolton at The Grove after going a goal behind was nice. And also knocking them out of the cup up in their place in extra time. I mean letting them score in the final minute and to see them celebrating only to be thought a lesson in extra time. Ha. Oh how i hate that walrus looking git.

Of course beating the mancs in “the theatre of dreams” gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. Or maybe that was the numerous pints of Guinness that did that.

And who can forget the glimpse into the future that was the carling cup run from the under 12 arsenal side. Theo putting us in front in the final. what a first half that was, only to be undone by an offside Drogba goal, c**t

Also the christmas prezzie that was the 6-2 hammering of blackburn was most welcome. As was the rarity that is a Hleb goal.

  9. There’s a few highlights but I just loved the 6-3 game at Anfield in the Carling Cup. Arsene’s philosophy of slick, attacking football runs throughout the club and when the kids perform like that then it’s just sensational.

The kids were probably the only real positive thing about this season, with Clichy.

  10. The final whistle against portsmouth, so we would never have to see baptista again!!! overall a poor year with too many poor perfomances to mention, let’s hope we see some summer action or it will be more of the same next year.

  11. I vote for Matty Flamini’s goal against Chelse, back in December was it? It was so deliciously sweet to take the lead against them at their place, mainly because I just wasn’t expecting it at all. Shame we couldn’t hang on – it took one of the goals of the season to stop us – but seeing Matty stick that one in was the only thing all season that made me leap off the sofa and go ‘YWAAAHHHEEEAAAAH!!!!’
