Many Positives For Unai Emery But Mesut Özil Needs To Be Sold!

Arsenal lost 2-0 in their opening game of the 2018/2019 season and although we were outplayed at times, the future looks positive.

The young Frenchman, Matteo Guendouzi, looked excellent in central midfield and although he was a bit rash at times, overall he was fantastic – making important tackles, getting around the pitch and putting in a real team performance.

Lucas Torreira looked good once he came on to replace Granit Xhaka, and when introduced Stephen Lichtsteiner looked like a handy addition as well.

Manchester City where as you would expect – a team with seasons under their belt with an experienced manager, who were clear winners in the Premier League last year.

And Arsenal, were also where you would expect – a team in transition after a seismic change this summer.

There were some positives we can build on, but also a few negatives.

Mesut Özil was playing as if he was asleep and if he was more alert we could have scored a couple of goals – the first opportunity went begging after his mis-control went straight into the hands of Ederson and the second after he got in the way and got penalised for being offside when Lacazette was clean through.

And then there was the chance he had from a Lichtsteiner cut back, which he. managed to miss completely and fall over in the process.

With Aaron Ramsey in the team, the side doesn’t look balanced with Özil in the team and if you ask me which one should make way, it has to be the German (former) international.

  1. Agree the leson from this match is Ozil is a lazy waste of a player. Although the new boys impressed players who were regulars under Wenger need to be shown the door.
Mustafi, Granit and Ramsey amongst them. The defence were all over the place and what was all this passing back to the keeper about.

  3. Don’t agree. Ozil remains one of our best players but he needs sharpness. He will get better.
As for the passing back to the keeper, it looks precarious and slow but the manager clearly wants to play out from the back so we had better get used to it.

  4. I don’t agree with you, with todays match, the hope of finishing first to fourth is so much alive, give ozil sometime, the magic will come back. Moreover we need to get use to Emir philosophy, give them time. We were all crying for change, it takes time….

  5. It’s all very well talking about the need to sell Ozil but you know as well as the rest of us do, that no one is going to take Ozil and his £300k per week wages. Even if you gave him away without a fee, no one is going to pay the wages. So people like you need to stop writing these pointless words.

  6. Had Lucus Terri been on in granits place from the start, things may well have been better, he looked good scuffing out danger. There was also a clear pen on mastafi that could have changed things. Ozil missed so good chances,, which for me is better than not having any. You asked for change and you got what you wanted, christ you’ll be singing being back Wenger next week. Give it time, give it time, all good things come to though s who wait. I’m an arsenal supporter no matter what happens.
