Would You Welcome Back Alex Song?

Apparently, according to The Metro, Alex Song wants a return back to Arsenal.

Whether it’s a made up story, or whether there’s some truth behind it, it does raise a good question:

Would you want Alex Song back?

In days gone by, a return back to Arsenal after leaving would have been impossible, but we’ve seen Jens Lehmann, Sol Campbell and Thierry Henry all come back after stints away from the club. Obviously they were free stop gaps but still, Song coming back isn’t impossible.

The more likely option of course is that he leaves Barcelona after “his dream” doesn’t become reality and it dawns on him that he’s not Barcelona’s most important player, and moves to Tottenham or another club that wasn’t as good as Arsenal.

But would we take him back?

Although we’re still in the running for a Champions League spot after losing Song and Van Persie, I do feel we’ve missed Song’s presence.

I feel Arteta is more effective higher up the pitch and a midfield of Song, Arteta and Wilshere would be formidable. Aside from his tackling and covering the back four, his assist rate was excellent as well.

But what do you think?

Would you welcome him back with open arms?

  1. Certainly! He never asked for a transfer anyway and had a few more years on his contract.
    Kroenke wanted the cash!

  2. He should first apologize to Arsenal fans who felt let down by a player thought to be loyal and future leader at Arsenal. We became badly exposed at the Center due to his sudden departure.

    Gunner by Birth

  3. No he just acted like a petulant child in training. If he had sympathy for Arsenal he could just have said no and he didnt.

  4. Yes. If he accepts the pay of our lowest paid first team member and then works his ass of in trainning to win back his place in the team.

  5. no way!
the guy got too big for his boots and thought he was bigger and better than the club…
this season proves that he wasn’t…

  6. Absolutely NOT, we need a powerhouse defence minded midfielder who can protect the back 4. Song was too attack minded and didn’t have the discipline. You may argue he made some fantastic assists but he was often caught out of position and gave away silly fouls trying to get back. And he jumped at the chance to jump ship his attitude in practice was well documented even before barca came in for him.

  7. If anyone of us will put the emotions away and look at the weaknesses of our team, they’ll realize we need someone of that nature in our midfield. If we’re not able to get a pure CDM then getting song who is acclimated to the club and how we play is not a bad idea. Even if he sulked in practice or what not, the team is the one who decided to sell him. Football is a business and we as fans need to stop being emotional about the decisions. I would personally welcome him back because i think it’ll make us a better team and allow some players to go back to playing their natural positions where their strengths can be better utilized.

  8. YES!!!!! He left only because gadziz and kroenke forced him to go. Rather we sell or give away gadziz and kroenke and let wenger do the job he can… The board to blame for this, not Song.. we need a player of his calibre

  9. Not all that glitters is GOLD, but a return to emirate will be a welcome idea but if it eventually he needs to publicly apologize to all Arsenal fans, especially his own fans(Including me), without him there won’t praises for RVP and without Arsenal there will never be SONG – Before Now or in the Future. Pls come back my Darling Rigobert Songie. We all love and miss you Dearly, it hurts to see u thwart ur career on barca bench. On the field of play Barca is no better than Arsenal without the officials assistance they can never take full four from us on a two legged Champions league match. So pls come back, Fab has been reduced to even below average play but just lucky to get playing times. COYG!

  11. He’s needed back at Arsenal. He can be forgiven for wanting to leave for Barca… who wouldn’t? What is important is that he recognises that this is home for him, because he could be our Yaya Toure! Bring the boy back.

    We’ve only got one Song!

  12. I just can’t believe fans saying he shouldn’t come back.

Are you so childish and self obsessed to choose an option that would not be as good for Arsenal because you feel slighted?

God help us all from fans like that.

We have suffered without him plain and simple and if he did come back he would have a different attitude.

@ Ben. You said “he thought he was bigger than the club and this season proves that he wasn’t” What season is that? The one where we might not qualify for champions league football and were knocked out of competitions by low level clubs?

Too many fans need tucked in and read a happy story before beddie-byes.

  13. Apologize to the fans that’s absurd. The fans forced him out as much as Gazdis and Kronke. I would welcome him back and he should take his spot back in the squad like he never left.

  14. i cant believe any fan who actually watched song in an arsenal shirt would want him back, not good enough for arsenal was never going to be good enough for barca. good riddance. now enough talk of this muppet find a player who deserves the shirt.
