Should Mesut Özil be brought back into the Arsenal team? Cast your vote here!

Over the last few seasons, we’ve all been debating the Özil conundrum.

We all know he’s the highest paid player at the club, on a whopping £350,000 a week since signing the new deal in January 2018. This new deal ends in the summer of 2021, meaning that he is free to leave in a years time for nothing.

The massive pay rise was offered to him at a time when Arsenal’s historic mishandling of contracts once again came to a head, with both of our star players; Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez, were at a crossroads.

We either had to sell them before their current deals ran out (otherwise they could leave on a free) or offer them big big pay rises. At the time, and I still stand by this today, I said that we should have offered Alexis Sanchez mega money and kept him, and sold Özil while he still had some resale value. In the end, Arsene went the other way and look where we are now.

Alexis Sanchez recently said that after one training session with Manchester United, he came home and asked his agent whether he could rip up his contract and return to Arsenal. Whatever you want to say about Alexis Sanchez, he was for me the best player we’ve had at the club in the last 10 years. He was that good. And along with his phenomenal ability, he always gave 110% every single time he wore an Arsenal shirt.

Özil on the other hand was the exact opposite. He was a maverick, a luxury player who did well one week and disappeared the next. And ever since his new deal and pay rise to £350,000 a week, he has done nothing for the club.

Arsene Wenger projected that buying a player of Özil’s quality would have cost the club a lot more, justifying the increased wages. But I think it’s pretty obvious that the new deal has been a complete disaster.

But yesterday gave a glimmer of hope. Özil featured in the 3-2 friendly defeat to Aston Villa, and a lot of Arsenal fans went mental at the fact that Özil actually played a match for the club. But what does his future hold?

Should Özil be a first team player, contributing as much as we know he can? Should he be a squad player who can help the team in a few games, but primarily from the bench? Or should he be sold ASAP so we can free up funds for new signings?

  1. If you start by blackmail about ozil do you expect a fair results after ur so called vote???!!!!, Mesut was and is still the best player Arsenal have got. He never gave us heart break by committing his life to Arsenal at the time we needed him most by inking down a new contract at Arsenal. His presence alone at Arsenal was enough to influence ur so called best player in the last 10 years Alexis Sanchez to reject Liverpool n come to Arsenal leave alone the love he has for the club, but the respect he has for the fans, is this the best way of repaying him. Having him in the Arsenal’s 11 is a no brainer n any thick minded bastard should know the answer. Mesut10 The Assist King Forever.

    • well again i disagree with you regards to keeping Sanchez and your saying he was the best player we have had for 10 yrs! Here is why is say that ! One Sanchez wasn’t a team player and just played for himself and his tantrums after being subbed showed him to be exactly what Arsenal did not want or need at the club !! He upset the harmony of the club and made other players unsettled !! which for any club is bad news but for where Arsenal were at the moment in time exactly what we didn’t want or need !! To say he was our best player for 10 yrs well i serious;y cannot see how you come to that conclusion !! Ramsey Arteta Giourd were far better players and actually played for the team not themselves. They gave us something we needed and kept the Harmony within the players !! they never acted like a spoilt little brat and threw their toys out of the pram every time they were subbed !! For me these three were head and shoulders above Sanchez !! because you like a player doesn’t make him the best in 10 yrs !! You say last 10 yrs then you have to be off your head to say he was the best in those 10 yrs !! Auba is within those 10 yrs and is a far far far far better player than Sanchez ever was !! but liek i said if you mean when at the time was the best we had at the club in 10 yrs then again i think your mad !! I believe at the time we had to keep one of the players Sanchez or Ozil as if we lost both the fans would have rioted !! I personally would have sold both… and

    • Assist KING pmsl !! you are liek the guy that wrote this article !! because you like a player doesnt make him what he isnt !! Ozil is not the assist KING !! that must be a joke !!

  2. Jesus, 34% want him in the team!!?? Have any of these idiots actually watched any of his performances over the past 3 years?

  3. Doh. Toni?the only thick minded c** t around here is yourself. The bug eyed leach should have f** kd off at least 3 seasons ago.maybe you can join him?The assist king?” we just don’t understand” lol!

  4. Arsenal need to grow beyond mediocrity how many years are we going to stick with this guy that cannot give us what saka can give us but with high wages we need creativity, people are talking of our defence but we need creativity, do we have debruyne, mahrez or harvertz like other clubs? we need Auoar seriously.

  5. No hard feelings
Ozil is no longer fit to take us to the next level
We need players more effective now.
We have been lacking behind for too long
We really need to let sentiments aside and move on.
Btw Lacazette and Bellerin should be considered a part of our Future Success.

  8. Arsenal struggling to offload players that have been poor for a few seasons, what does that tell you? No one wants them even as a part deal.
