Will We Actually Miss Gael Clichy?

It looks like Gael Force Clichy will be moving to Manchester City, as they try to collect all of our back four from The Invincibles season. Sol Campbell is a free agent so the only stumbling block would be his outrageous wage demands, and there are rumours going around that they are trying to coax Lauren out of retirement with a very lucrative pay-as-you-play deal.

All kidding aside though, will Arsenal fans miss Gael Clichy?

There’s no doubt that he always gives 110% but he is prone to making fundamental mistakes. He gets up and down the left flank well but as everyone knows his crossing is awful. The whole point of an attacking fullback is that they either have an eye for goal of that they can at least cross a ball. Clichy has neither of those qualities.

Sagna’s contribution in the final third is not much better but he has made some assists over the course of last season and he is a much more solid defender.

But who will Arsenal use to replace Clichy?

The press are talking about Jose Enrique from Newcastle (who I don’t rate at all) and Everton’s Leighton Baines. Baines would be a fantastic acquisition but the problem is he’s English and actually a decent footballer so his retail value will be close to around £14 million which is well out of Arsenal’s spending league.

Predictions?

Arsene will not spend any money and hope that Kieran Gibbs doesn’t get injured. The poor kid will get injured two games into the new season and then we will use Thomas Vermaelen as a make-shift left back for the rest of the campaign, while Squillaci will contribute to Arsenal’s worst goal-difference in 30 years.

  1. Don’t rate Enrique at all hahaha he’s twice the player of Clichy, got pace and power about his game, not nicknamed El Toro for nothing, you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss out on him

  2. Clichy is not great but pretty good. If Gibbs did not have english passport he would be selling fish and chips in the next store. He has nothing to him beside being young. He has chicken legs, no heart, power, football brain or anything that a real footballer of today needs.

  3. No we wont miss Clichy. We have had enough of his losing concentration in danger areas.Gibbs is his injured clone but only worse.Get Enrique he’s quality

  4. Won’t miss him at all. No doubt Gibbs will take his place and we’ll have an equally disastrous left back instead.

  5. If you got Enrique you’d wonder why the hell City are after Clichy when they could have had Enrique. Enrique would add some much needed steel to your defence, whilst at the same time being technically able (good close passing would fit right in with your style of play, excellent cross on the lad too) with excellent strength and a good turn of pace. Won’t drop his arse in the face of adversity either, which your lads were guilty of far too often last year.

That said, please don’t put in an offer, we want him to stay (although I’d much prefer he went to you than City/Liverpool).

  6. clichy when he was back up to cashley..was the real deal…however after cahleys departure he turned out to be 1 very quick 2 unreliable crosser of the ball 3 prone to defensive errors(sunderland away last season typical).we appear to have many players who just cant doit over a full season..and there will be no difference when gibbs comes in will there?but the club will have pocketed millions from who ever…….and NASRI leave the club but its not about money oh f–k off..another player who just cant do it over a season..great player between august and december and then he slips of the radar(and just for one season)Cesc iw ould miss because i remember him a a kid coming thru…but like so many of our superstars they only play about half a season due to injuries so we regulary make do without cesc rvp walcott and still manage to do much better than we think and cant get exited about football these days more important things on my mind, like will i have a job after xmas…so want away super stars just do one…thanks…i would love cahill at the club next season

  7. The problem is Clich maybe error prone at Arsenal but under Mancinni he could develop into an efficient defender. This is because the Italian manager is schooled in Italy’s defence culture. This means a player maybe a liability at his former club but could turn to ba a prized asset

  8. You can certainly see your enthusiasm within the work you write.
The sector hopes for more passionate writers such
as you who are not afraid to mention how they believe.

All the time follow your heart.
