Jack Wilshere Will Join United Within 2 Years

It’s the same old story season after season.

We will compete for the trophy that matters most to the board, which is 4th place and Champions League qualification. We will have the highest ticket prices in the league, never teach defence and finally, we will sell our best 2 or 3 players in the summer.

Arsenal would like to paint the picture that these players are unloyal, selfish and mercenaries who are only after money.

But let’s get really, every footballer is like that.

Gone are the days of players like Ray Parlour. He’s said numerous times that when it came to contract negotiations, he never even looked at how much Arsenal wanted to pay him. They gave him the contract and he signed.

But these days agents are ruining the game and unsurprisingly, are trying to get as much money as they can for themselves and their “clients”.

Look at the players that have left Arsenal over the last few seasons. We have Robin van Persie, Alex Song, Gael Clichy, Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, William Gallas, Eduardo, Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini, Jose Antonio Reyes and Thierry Henry.

With the exception of Thierry Henry and Eduardo, and possibly Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal fans are quick to call those players traitors, back-stabbers and pathetic human beings only interested in money.

Despite the fact that most of them have gone on to win major honours with their new clubs.

But the fact is, Arsenal are the Ajax of the Premier League.

They have to sell their best players in order to balance the books, and to please the board. Arsene Wenger is getting a lot of flak at the moment but it’s the board where we need major changes. Silent Stan is living up to his name and no-one has any idea what his plans are. Has he invested anything into the club? He must be the only major shareholder to not endear himself to the fans by spending some money.

People say Wenger must go but who else could do better under those circumstances? Most managers that would join Arsenal would demand some money to spend.

And that brings us to Jack Wilshere.

Over the last few games, and the season so far, it is obvious that Jack is our best player. He has the desire, technique, temperament and potential to make it at the very top, and he’s only just turned 21. You can see he loves the club and the disappointment he feels when Arsenal lose, he’s a fan just like us.

But there’s only so much players like that can take. Look at all the other players listed above, they may have left for money but they’ve gone on to win things and are enjoying success elsewhere. Arsene promises the future but tomorrow never comes.

And we’ve seen recently there’s no such thing as not selling to a “rival”. We’ve sold (and released) players to Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, Real Madrid and AC Milan. It doesn’t take a genius to work out that players are leaving The Emirates to much bigger clubs. Arsenal are seen as a stepping stone to bigger things, and we’re no longer the final stop in a players career. I may be mistaken, but the last notable player I can think of that ended their career at Arsenal was Dennis Bergkamp.

So you can’t say Jack won’t be tempted by pastures new.

Manchester United seems the obvious choice because he is Alex Ferguson’s type of player. Gives 110% in every game, is special and would be a long term solution for replacing Paul Scholes. Wilshere would shine at somewhere like United where the determination levels of the team never drop. You can say whatever you like about Manchester United, but there’s no doubting that every player in their squad is a winner. Winning is all that matters and if a player is going through the motions then Alex Ferguson gives them a b*llocking and drops them. There’s no threat of that happening at Arsenal were players can do what they like.

And with United’s spending they know they could offer £35 million and Arsenal would sell him. Arsenal’s reputation as a selling club is problematic in the transfer market – Torres was sold for £50 million, Carroll for £35 million and we sell Robin van Persie for £24 million?! And Cesc Fabregas was around the same price.

You will argue that their prices were because their contracts were due to expire. But who’s fault is that? Arsenal allow their best players to wind down their contracts without any consequences – just look at the Theo Walcott debacle this season. It’s ridiculous and I don’t know another “big” side that lets this happen as much as we do.

Same Old Arsenal, Always Self Destructing

I predicted in my last post this afternoon that it would be 3-1 either way. My heart said it would be to Arsenal, but my head was saying Bayern. And that’s what ended up happening.

Arsenal started the game poorly and at this level, you can’t give a team like Bayern any head start. But after only 7 minutes, Bayern opened the scoring and grabbed a vital away goal through Kroos.

Then in typical Arsenal fashion, our shambolic defending gave Bayern another goal this time from a corner. Szczesny, just like against Blackburn, was again culpable with a extremely poor save gifting Mueller a tap in from a yard out. Szczesny talks the talk but too many times has cost Arsenal dearly. He palmed the shot against Blackburn into the danger area from Kazim-Richards to score and instead of getting the ball clear tonight he gave it straight to a Bayern player. When Almunia and Fabianski made mistakes Arsenal fans would by quick to late them, but for some strange reason the Pole is never questioned or criticised. He’s not good enough and Arsenal need to buy a decent goalkeeper as competition because Szczesny is in the comfort zone.

After that, Bayern played out the first half and as expected, Arsenal were fired up for the second half. But far too often, Arsenal are abysmal in the first 45 minutes and then “show character” to fight back in the second 45. But why can’t Arsenal get their act together from the start? There is something fundamentally wrong with how this Arsenal team set themselves out from the first whistle.

We nicked a goal through Podolski when Bayern failed to defend a corner (they must have caught “Arsenal-itis”) and we tried to get an equaliser.

Giroud and Rosicky came on to replace Ramsey and Podolski, and Theo went out wide. Within minutes, Rosicky did well to find Theo on the right and his fantastic cross found Giroud who shot straight at Neuer.

And when that happened, every single Arsenal fan knew what was going to happen next.

Too often, Giroud has the chance to make a massive difference in the game which ends up being vital to the result. Again, he missed the chance to score the equaliser, and give Arsenal a huge boost in the game, only to miss and what happens? Bayern go and score a sucker punch goal.

Arsenal conceded a goal that only Arsenal could concede. Ridiculous, and if you weren’t an Arsenal fan you’d probably laugh.

I like Giroud, but like many players at Arsenal he’s not good enough. That’s not his fault, he tries but the fact is the calibre of player we bring in these days isn’t as good as the players we sell. Would Van Persie has missed that? Actually, don’t answer that.

But the point is at the top top level, little things like that matter. A world class striker and a very good striker can be the difference in these games. Having a world class goalkeeper would definitely make a difference.

And how about the starting eleven?

How can any sane person start Theo Walcott up front? He is electric on the wing – we all know about his pace and his delivery has massively improved in recent seasons. And the fact is he can exploit his pace with more space out in the wide areas. That decision made things extremely difficult and had a big bearing on the potential result in my eyes.

Ramsey was off the pace. He gave it his best but unfortunately he wasn’t in the game tonight. Wilshere was excellent but he can’t do it all by himself. With a bit more luck, he may have nicked a goal but it’s too much to ask of one player.

Bayern Munich were clearly the superior side, and at times controlled the game comfortably. The biggest frustration is that Arsenal could have given themselves a much better chance tonight. They could have started Theo out wide and Giroud up top. They could have brought Rosicky on much earlier. The team and system that started the game gave Arsenal little hope and that’s how it turned out.

At least we can now concentrate on the only trophy that really matters – 4th place.

Predictions for Tonight?

So what are your predictions for tonight’s massive game?

If you listen to the “experts”, then you would think it’s a foregone conclusion.

I think there will be goals, and have a feeling it will be 3-1 either way. At this level, it depends on who starts the strongest and can get a stranglehold on the game.

Arsene Loses His Cool Before Vital CL Clash

So tomorrow, we take on the mighty Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

This afternoon, Arsene Wenger had one of the most hot-tempered press conferences I have ever seen in his 16 year reign as Arsenal manager. You can tell the pressure is getting to him and he is getting extremely irritated by people saying he doesn’t take the FA Cup seriously, being accused of not having the desire to win trophies and about “wrong information” about him signing a 2 year extension to his current deal.

In the press conference, a watching Mikel Arteta looked very awkward sitting along side Arsene, as he had a go at the reports and their questions – answering with sarcasm and anger.

The usually charismatic and charming Arsene was feeling the heat, or maybe he was having a bad day. Either way, there could be signs that things are starting to crumble.

We all know it has been 8 years since we won a trophy. But where does the blame lie? There are Arsenal fans that think Arsene should go, and bringing someone else will solve all our problems. There are those that hold Arsene Wenger up on a pedestal as a God. The truth is somewhere in between.

Admittedly, Arsene has his flaws, but so does every manager. And these are magnified the more results don’t go our way. There is no doubt that Arsene Wenger is a fantastic manager. Whatever you think of him now, he has done miracles at this club. But I just don’t think he has the support he needs, especially from the board, and Silent Stan.

Arsene doesn’t have the resources he needs – and who would say that new manager would do any better with the same financial backing. There’s no doubt in my mind the best man for the job, under the current board is Arsene Wenger.

And onto tomorrow’s massive game.

Bayern, as you will probably know, are in sensational form. They are top of the Bundesliga by a staggering 15 points, have a goal difference of +50 after 22 games and lost only one league game so far this season. And away from home, they have scored 27 goals and only conceded one.

So a simple game on our hands then.

But this is when Arsenal usually pull it out of the bag. Arsenal frustrate, amaze and disappoint in equal measure. When no-one gives us a chance, we are capable of defying the odds.

There is no pressure on us and we have nothing to lose.

Wishful thinking perhaps, but with Arsenal I always believe that on their day, they are capable of beating absolutely any team out there. I have to believe that, I am an Arsenal fan.

It’s eleven v eleven out there and we have to believe we can get a good result.

We Don’t Want The FA Cup, 4th Spot Is The Real Trophy

So Arsenal have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Blackburn Rovers.

Cup competitions always give us shocks and today it was us yet again. Only recently Bradford City knocked us out of the Capital One Cup.

So it’s just the same old story really.

We rest some of our “regular” starters, give a few reserve players a run out and then try but ultimately fail in progressing to the next round. But wait, we can’t even use that as an excuse any more, as like the Bradford game we had a very strong side out.

And just like the Bradford game, Gervinho was the man to miss a sitter which would have made all the difference.

He might be good for the Ivory Coast but for us he’s useless. Didier Drogba he is not.

Anyway, the FA Cup isn’t a proper trophy anyway, 4th spot is where it’s at.

And look on the bright side, this paves the way for Arsenal to have a glorious Champions League campaign and life the European Cup!

One can dream can’t they?
