Is Wenger The Man To Take Arsenal Forward?

With Cesc and Nasri off to pastures new, Arsenal are left with a somewhat weaker squad. The blow is softened slightly with the signings of Gervinho, Carl Jenkinson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but they are hardly signings that will get the Arsenal fans excited.

Last season, Arsene promised he would be “very active” over the summer and with two weeks until the transfer window closes, and one day before the start of the new Premier League season, we have not added in the areas we really do need strengthening – central defence, left back, in goal and central midfield.

Szczesny is decent, don’t get me wrong, but he is young and I don’t rate Almunia or Fabianski as good enough backup. A decent signing in this area would at least keep the goalkeeping position competitive.

There has been rumours about Phil Jagielka, Scott Dann and Gary Cahill coming in but we already have 4 central defenders so I can’t see Arsene bringing in any more. Crazy I hear you cry? Well that’s us isn’t it? Djourou and Vermaelen are excellent in my opinion but Squillaci and Koscielny make too many mistakes.

Aaron Ramsey will replace Cesc Fabregas in a like-for-like swap, but again, if he, Wilshere or Song get injured we’re in big trouble. Gervinho has been added to the attacking talent of Van Persie, Walcott, Rosicky and Arshavin so purely on numbers alone, it would not surprise me in the slightest if Arsene did not add to the squad.

And this is backed up by his statements in this afternoon’s press conference:

“Do we want to buy? I don’t know because at the moment we have too big a squad, we have too many players,”

After all, his argument would be bringing in new players would “kill” the talents of the younger players.

  1. Wenger is making Arsenal the laughing stock of the prem ,a new manager should of been installed at the end of last season, and dont kid me there isnt anybody out there ,the majority of the prem managers could do a better job and probably a few championship managers as well .
    In my 45 years of being a gooner i cant ever remember the club being in a worse state than it is now fuck the new stadium .
    GO NOW WENGER YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING !

  2. From the statement; “Do we want to buy? I don’t know because at the moment we have too big a squad, we have too many players,” I can deduce that AW doesn’t want to blow his trumpet. It is crazy and will be disastrous if AW fails to add to this crop of players with experienced left full back, central defender and defensive midfielder. Some players also need to look elsewhere. My list of wantaway players are Bentdner, Eboue, Diaby, Vela, Almunia, and Dennilson

  3. believe in wenger. let the duo go. arsenal need afresh start. got no big names means you got a task to make big names. young gunns will do the job. ofcourse..

  4. LIAR LIAR Your pants are on fire Arsene Wanker once more your selling our best player and bringing in nobody or average or cheap players where’s are super class player you promise we want MATA as replacement and other class player if they don’t come in our team you should be sacked arsenal fans should burn the new arsenal shirt with AW name on it at the ground and they should Boo him as fans are taken as mugs once more well we need a new manager with new players and new ideas no more fucking the fans over with the same story every year
    SACK ARSENE THE WASTE OF SPACE

  5. Please this afternoons conference was about concentrating on the current squad not what Wenger feels. If the squad was big enough already why did he bid for Jones, alvarez and Jagielka oh and Mata. Jone spoke to wenger and decided on Utd everton have overpriced Jagielka but bids were made so if he really thought squad was big enough why bid for these players. It is a smokescreen trying to keep current squad focussed on newcastle tomorrow. Wenger is the man to carry us on for the moment. the top six will be 1. Man Utd. 2.Chelsea 3. Arsenal 4. Liverpool 5.Man City 6. Tottenham. I would like to say we have a chance but Utd have added well and early to their squad so they will be hard to beat whilst chelsea have been relatively quiet they will still be a force City have spent a lot of money but Mancini’s problem is getting the blend right on the pitch and it will take them time to gel. liverpool have added well to a good squad and i expect them to qualify for champions league under dalglish and tottenham to push city at 5 and six. As for us if we are still in contention come march then anything is possible but we will really need to take points off our main rivals. in our first three games a draw and two wins would be a good start. I take the draw to be against Utd

  6. @WengerOUT

    I’m sorry, but in 45 years you haven’t seen Arsenal in a worse state than it is now? You just lost your own argument there.

    @Wenger out NOW

    And why not?

    @Iyk Kings

    Agreed, after actually watching the press conference, I’d be surprised if he didn’t add to the squad. I don’t think they will be blockbuster signings, and maybe he’ll add 1 or 2 players with decent Premier League experience.

    @David davies

    That’s slightly excessive.

    @richard morgan

    True, from watching the press conference I did feel sorry for Arsene. Obviously they have been trying to bring in players but haven’t had any luck. Maybe they’ve been stalling on the sale of Cesc and Nasri until they had replacements lined up? Wishful thinking perhaps but possible.

    @RGG

    It was clear he was keeping his cards close to his chest, I feel.

  7. dont get me wrong wenger is an incredible manager but why on earth he hasnt signed a centre back is beyond me! with the way we ended the season last year it was criminal not to get somebody signed BEFORE the transfer window! then to go out and spend 10s of millions on some bloody teenager AGAIN! the signings hes made are completely un-inspiring

  8. Forward.Are you joking?We are going backwards.We finished 4th and are losing a world class player in Cesc and a very good player in Nasri

    Wenger is a liar who has lied to us the fans.A month ago Cesc and Nasri wont go because big clubs dont sell their best players

    Wenger wont be manager come May

  9. We will miss out on CL,Udinese win on awaygoalrule.
    We will lose a couple of games the first month.
    RVP will get injured late August.
    Wenger will put the blame on a tough start with 2 games(CL)more than
    city,utd,spurs,’pool,chelski…..
    Same fucking shit as last year,and the year before …..
