The Rooney, Higuain & Torres Rumours Reviewed

If we believed everything the press published, we could end up starting next season with a strike force of Wayne Rooney, Gonzalo Higuain and Fernando Torres.

Here I give cast my eye over how likely these deals are:

Gonzalo Higuain: 8/10

This is a deal that I feel is realistic. We’ve heard from Higuain’s brother, father, grandmother and even his dog that he could be moving to Arsenal. For me, this deal is very much on the table but the big question is do Arsenal have the balls to follow it through and seal the deal.

Fernando Torres: 1/10

Unless Arsene has had a stroke, then this deal is how it sounds. Completely ridiculous. Fernando Torres is finished. Ever since moving to Chelsea he has been extremely poor and obviously Jose Mourinho doesn’t see him being the man that can fire Chelsea to the major honours so they want to offload him. The obvious place to link him to is Arsenal with their “war chest” and every striker that looks like moving on is linked to us. It’s no different here but the whole concept is crazy. He only scores against rubbish teams, has lost his pace, lost his touch and well, is crap.

Wayne Rooney: 1/10

Another ridiculous transfer rumour. He’s on a reported £250,000 a week which is more than double the highest paid player, Theo Walcott, is on at Arsenal. Added to the issue of wages, he is a disruptive influence in the dressing room, wouldn’t take orders from Arsene Wenger, is a liability on the pitch, doesn’t fit in to Arsenal’s style of play, would go off the rails in London… do I really need to go on?

Anyway, he’s apparently “happy” at Manchester United now and it was blatantly just yet another ploy to improve his contract at Old Trafford.

Arsenal Need To Start Completing Their Transfers

With Isco spurning Manchester City and completing his move from Malaga to Real Madrid, and Carlos Tevez moving to Italy with Juventus, then it appears the transfer merry-go-round has started to take off.

Manchester United have just had a £12 million bid rejected for Leighton Baines, in what will be the start of bidding and negotiations. Baines is a person who will not move away from the North West, so Old Trafford seems his most likely destination. £12 million is just a starter bid and I expect both teams to agree on somewhere in the region of £18 million. Hopefully, once Baines leaves that will give us a better chance of getting Fellaini, if that deal was ever going to happen.

Mancheste City have already confirmed the signings of Jesus Navas and Fernandinho, but the most interesting Brazilian signing for me is the £17 million purchase of Paulinho to Tottenham. From what I’ve seen, Fernandinho is a really good player but overall, Paulinho is the more accomplished and complete footballer, and Manchester City bought the wrong man. Unfortunately, this means Tottenham have him and that’s bad news for us.

Tottenham have signalled their intentions and are strengthening appropriately. We continue to be linked with the likes of Higuain, Rooney (well, not anymore) and Fellaini but haven’t brought in a single player yet.

If the Higuain deal doesn’t materialise next week, then surely it never will. It’s been 5 weeks since we’ve been linked and despite his dog confirming a “deal is close” we’re none the wiser. With Isco joining Real, Tevez going to Juventus and Ancelotti being appointed Real manager, surely things will be advancing much quicker now.

Higuain Is Close To Sealing Arsenal Move, Says Higuain’s Dog

In a world exclusive, we can officially reveal that Higuain’s dog Fito (Fido in Spanish, probably) has officially confirmed his owner will be moving to London for Arsenal FC.

In a statement, he said:

“Woof woof.”

And while I’m no dog expert, obviously, it translates as:

“I was running around the house as usual when I saw a school teacher (Arsene Wenger) and his personal assistant (Ivan Gazidis) and they talked about moving to Arsenal.

“At that point, I went outside and licked my balls.”

So there you have it. If you were unsure about whether this deal was actually going to happen then wonder no more.

Could Manchester City Steal Higuain From Arsenal?

As the Carlos Tevez move to Juventus got me excited about Higuain and perceived increase in chances of him joining Arsenal (and my subsequent post), the first comment from the man know as “Dave” brought me down to earth.

It didn’t even occur to me for a second that Manchester City could be in the running for Higuain now. One thing we don’t need is a club like City flashing their millions around. Cash is king in football and if they offered the Argentine striker £250,000 a week, could he seriously turn it down?

We of course could promise more regular football but is that enough? We’ve already seen Clichy, Nasri, Adebayor and Toure tempted away by the lure of money from City and they would just love it if they trumped us yet again.

And of course, we cannot forget the Pellegrini factor. He has managed in Spain before, and more importantly managed Gonzalo Higuain at Real Madrid. So he has previous and knows the player well. And even worse, in Higuain’s 7 year spell at Real Madrid (and countless managers in that time), guess who was in charge in his most productive season? You guessed it, Pellegrini.

In the 2009-2010 season, Higuain scored 29 goals in all competitions. The closest to that was in the 2011-2012 season, when Real were managed by Jose Mourinho and he notched up 26 goals.

If newspapers and websites are putting two and two together, then so can we. And unlike most of the rumours and hearsay, then this one could have a bit of substance.

Tevez Moves To Juventus, Now The Time To Get Excited About Higuain?

BBC Sport have revealed that Carlos Tevez is about to join Juventus for around £12 million. Both clubs have agreed a fee, and Tevez is expected to complete his medical on Wednesday.

So what does this mean for Arsenal and Higuain?

Well unless the Old Lady is going to start a Argentine double-duo of Tevez and Higuain, then the signs look positive.

£12 million for a striker of Carlos Tevez’s quality is a bargain in my eyes, as he is a player I really rate. Who knows what kind of wages he will be on but getting him for £12 million could show that Juventus (like they did with Van Persie) talked a good game but don’t have the funds people think they do.

This leaves the door firmly held open for Arsenal to sign Higuain, unless there’s another club that is going to gazump us last minute.

If there was any a club that could mess this up from this position, it’s Arsenal.

But let’s try and stay positive!
