Arsene Has Reverted To Type / Özil Signing Was A One Off

In a week where Arsenal have rejected the chance to re-sign one of the best midfielders in world football, and someone who knows Arsenal and the Premier League like the back of his hand, another transfer revelation is that we are going to re-sign another former Arsenal player instead, in Carlos Vela.

Regular readers will know that I was astonished at how Arsenal could even pass over the opportunity to bring Cescy back. For £30 million or thereabouts, it’s a complete no brainer. Emotion aside, it still made perfect sense. Midfield was an area we struggled in last season in terms of strength and depth, Cesc already knows Arsenal and England so wouldn’t need any time to settle in or “find his feet”, he has improved over the last few seasons and was already one of the best players in the Premier League, a league he knows like the back of his hand. In short, he would improve any top team he did join.

And when you consider players like Adam Lallana are being valued at £28 million, signing Cesc for £30 million is an absolute steal. Juan Mata was £37.5 million and doesn’t have the goals, physical presence or assist record of Cesc. And Cesc has more pace and can tackle as well.

So when the disappointment of the Cesc saga sunk in, you assumed that Arsenal passed up the chance because he wanted to use the money elsewhere – and sign some big players in other position such as defence and attack.

But it now appears that Arsenal are bringing Vela back, for around £3.5 million.

It could all be paper talk, but wouldn’t that be Arsene all over? Pass up on a big-name signing which would improve our squad and improve the moral amongst the team and the fans, and sign a striker who has yet to prove himself in England for peanuts.

If you thought missing out on Cesc was the start of big money buys in other areas, you would be wrong.

Now Arsene has secured his new contract he’s back to the same old shite. Trying to find bargains from France usually, in the form of young players with “potential”.

Was the Özil signing a complete one off? You bet it was.

Arsene Wenger Has A Lot To Answer For After Snubbing Cesc Fabregas

I was furious yesterday after news broke that Arsenal had opted out of re-signing Cesc Fabregas. It makes no sense whatsoever. We need to build a world class squad if we want to really compete in Europe and in the Premier League instead of being also-rans in both. Next season will see another fourth spot finish (if we’re lucky with United and Liverpool strengthening) and possibly a last 16 finish in the Champions League.

When we went the whole season unbeaten our midfield consisted of Patrick Vieira, Gilberto Silva, Edu, Ray Parlour, Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg and Jose Antonio Reyes.  We also had David Bentley coming through the ranks as well as a very young Cesc Fabregas, who would become more of a regular the season after.

In 2004 we had 7 really top midfielders, most of which you could consider world class – and three of them were World Cup winners. Arsene Wenger (seemingly knew) that we needed an extremely strong midfield to compete at the very top. 10 years later however, it’s a different story.

Currently our midfield consists of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky, Santi Cazorla, Mesut Özil and er… Abou Diaby. Whereas in 2004 we had 7 really excellent midfielders, today we have probably three? Mesut Özil, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey are the only ones you could consider top drawer. Wilshere is injury prone, and Rosicky and Arteta are getting on a bit.

If you put the 2004 and 2014 midfields against each other there is absolutely no contest.

So not strengthening and bringing Cesc Fabregas back is criminal. How often is the signing of a world class midfielder handed to you on a plate? And for good measure, he actually wants to return to us!

I mean honestly, it is completely f*cked up.

Unless Arsene Wenger has a trick up his sleeve and has two world class players lined up to appease the fans, then I can’t see how Arsenal fans will forgive him for snubbing the chance to bring back one of Arsenal’s most popular and inspirational players.

One Question About The Whole Cesc Fabregas Affair

Most Arsenal fans are furious (myself included) about Arsene Wenger’s decision to “opt out” of re-signing Cesc Fabregas, a player who is world class, would improve ANY team in Europe and also has invaluable Premier League experience.

Not forgetting the fact that new players need time to settle at a new club – and with Cesc there would be no such problems. He could literally walk back into the club and continue where he left off.

You have some Arsenal supporters who are saying not signing Cesc is the right call – and most of these fans seem to be in the Arsene Knows Brigade. For those fans, my simple question is this:

If we didn’t want him back, then why the hell did we have a first refusal clause in the first place?

Why The F*ck Aren’t Arsenal Signing Cesc Fabregas?!

It’s been confirmed that Arsene Wenger and Arsenal have opted out of a clause which would give them first refusal on Cesc Fabregas.

How do you feel about this?

Because I’m absolutely livid!

Cesc is a world class player, and we struggled last season when Aaron Ramsey got injured last season. He’s a proven talent in the Premier League, into his peak years and would make any of the top teams even better.

So why don’t we want him?

Honestly, I have no f*cking idea. Maybe Arsenal have limited resources and Arsene is determined to strengthen in other areas.

But we all know that by the end of the summer, we’ve end up with a few signings off being true Premier League contenders. It’s been the same old story for the last 9 seasons, when it comes to the league at least.

I’ve said all along we should get Cescy back. It makes so much sense on so many levels – he would give the players, club and fans a huge boost, and he scores goals. His assist record is fantastic as well and we have a ready made replacement captain for Thomas Vermaelen. So what’s the deal?

Arsene Wenger must believe on some level that Cesc is not the player he once was. In typical Arsene fashion, he will believe that Cesc being at Arsenal would hinder the progress of the other players – but we know that’s ridiculous. Cesc was brought up in a team with midfielders like Pires, Vieira, Gilberto, Parlour, Freddie, Reyes and Edu. With that midfield, we went a whole season unbeaten.

What’s our current midfield? We have Ramsey who is our best player but his injury record is patchy. Jack Wilshere has his injury problems, as does Tomas Rosicky (plus the Czech is over 30 now). Mikel Arteta is getting on, and Flamini tends to pick up a lot of yellow cards.

Seriously, I have no idea why we’re not signing him!

Why Cesc Fabregas Should Join Chelsea

With disappointing reports that Arsene Wenger has snubbed the chance to re-sign Cesc Fabregas, it’s open season in terms of securing his signature and Chelsea look favourites to sign him.

It makes sense – his family are in London, he likes the capital and apparently Manchester United have cooled their interest after Louis Van Gaal took over at Old Trafford.

And if Arsene has lost the plot and can’t see the advantages to signing our former captain, then Cesc should join Chelsea. Chelsea have the financial power to give him excellent wages, he’d be working with Jose Mourinho who is a born winner (although we joke that he’s the specialist in failure, you can’t knock his outstanding record) and the bottom line is Chelsea will be right in there when it comes for challenging for the major honours next season.

With a decent striker they managed to reach the Champions League semi-finals and were right in the title race for the Premier League with 2/3 games to go. Yes, they finished the season empty handed but with a squad with obvious limitations, Jose Mourinho did an excellent job.

At Manchester City, they have the midfield partnership of Fernandinho and Yaya Toure which is formidable, while Frank Lampard has just left Chelsea and it makes sense signing Cesc to be his long term replacement. They also sold David Luiz for £50 million so they definitely have the available funds. Cesc is a proven talent in the Premier League and would be a massive asset to Chelsea – and I’m sure Jose Mourinho would love to sign Cesc and have him comeback to haunt Arsenal in some way.

If Arsenal are stupid enough to let this chance pass them by then Cesc has every right to look for the best option for himself and his family. And if he wants to return to England, then they option is Chelsea Football Club.
